Seahorse #1
Marble and Garnet on an Agate/Quartz Base
8x3x3
2008

Artist's notes:  This was my first Seahorse Sculpture.  It was made from Ruby lake Marble (the quarry is located near Thunder
Bay), and the eyes are garnet, the birthstone for January.  The base is a specimen from the
Thunder Bay Agate Mine.

Seahorse can change colour, to blend in with their surroundings.  Seahorse need to eat constantly due to their poor digestive
systems, (they have no stomaches).  A seahorse can eat 3000 to 4000 brine shrimp in a day.  Their main predator is man; these
fascinating creatures are at risk because about twenty-five million of them are being traded around the world each year.
