Octopus Marginatus
Alabaster and Hematite on a Granite Base
15x10x9,  2008

Artist's notes:  Octopus Marginatus has much detail: I spent many hours carving and sanding hundreds of suction-cups.  It is not
currently attached to the Lake Superior Granite base that it is shown on.  It can be permanently mounted on a slab, block, or
raw mineral specimen of your choice.  This fine example of marine life sculpture, is currently available, at
Chenier Fine Arts.
Alabaster Octopus Sculpture
Amphioctopus Marginatus, also known as the Veined Octopus, or the Coconut Octopus, is a medium sized
cephalopod.  They are found in the tropical waters of the Western Pacific Ocean.  They have been known to bury
themselves in sand, with only their eyes sticking out.  They also like to hide in coconut shells and build defensive
"fortresses", out of debris, shells, etc.  This species of octopus commonly preys upon shrimp, crabs and clams.
